West 5th Street Introduction

Welcome to the West 5th Street Overlay Project Blog we hope this helps keep you informed about the project as we move forward.  Please feel free to check back regularly for updates on the project.

On Thursday, April 4th we had a neighborhood meeting and invited property owners along the project route and some of the adjacent side streets to City Hall to learn about the project.  Residents in attendance had some great questions and we appreciate them taking some time out of their evening to attend the open house.

Property owners along West 5th Street learn more about the project during a neighborhood meeting.
The project will be an Asphalt overlay project and so down time to residents and businesses along the route should be more limited than normally would be seen during a complete reconstruction project.  That said residents should expect that access to their driveways will be limited for 1-2 days at some point during the project.

Currently the City is working on getting temporary construction easements along the route to allow the contractor to grade lawns so that they meet up with the sidewalk appropriately after the sidewalks have been replaced and made compliant with new Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements.  Property owners who own property where the City needs an easement have been contacted regarding this need.  If they have any questions they are encouraged to contact Justin Yarosevich with the City of Storm Lake.  Reminder letters will be going out in the next week or so.

Please stay tuned for further updates on the project.
